If you want to get all the newsletters of this series, please write an email to <a href=\"mailto:contact@gtec.asia\">contact@gtec.asia<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Adapt to the new trends in mobility in Asia<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Trend 1 of 5: LFP Cells on the Rise<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>LFP stands for lithium\u2011iron\u2011phosphate \u2014 a battery chemistry that has rapidly become a serious challenger to the former standard, NMC (nickel\u2011manganese\u2011cobalt). In China, more LFP cells are already being produced than NMC for domestic cars, and manufacturers like VW and Mercedes plan to use LFP in their smaller models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"285\" height=\"435\" src=\"https:\/\/gtec.asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Picture1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4087\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gtec.asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Picture1.png 285w, https:\/\/gtec.asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Picture1-197x300.png 197w, https:\/\/gtec.asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Picture1-8x12.png 8w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 285px) 100vw, 285px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lithium_iron_phosphate\">https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lithium_iron_phosphate<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why LFP?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are the benefits and the trade-offs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cheaper: LFP cells cost less to make because they avoid expensive, scarce heavy metals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>More robust and safer: LFP is thermally stable, which reduces the risk of fires.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lower energy density: LFP operates at a slightly lower voltage, so it stores less energy per volume than some NMC cells.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Charging behavior: Traditionally, LFP charges more slowly than some NMC chemistries \u2014 but manufacturers are working hard to close that gap.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>How CATL is improving LFP:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CATL is doubling down on LFP and aims to significantly speed up charging. The key is improved electrode materials \u2014 the company hasn\u2019t disclosed all details. If CATL\u2019s improvements were delivered as promised, LFP could take even more market share from NMC, which is typically about 20% more expensive to produce due to the complex extraction and processing of nickel and cobalt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"222\" height=\"216\" src=\"https:\/\/gtec.asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Picture2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4088\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gtec.asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Picture2.png 222w, https:\/\/gtec.asia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Picture2-12x12.png 12w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 222px) 100vw, 222px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.evlithium.com\/catl-battery-cell\/catl-lifepo4-battery-cell-161ah.html\">https:\/\/www.evlithium.com\/catl-battery-cell\/catl-lifepo4-battery-cell-161ah.html<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trends in the NMC (Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide) world:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NMC chemistry is shifting away from cobalt because cobalt mining raises environmental and social concerns, and the metal is scarce. Tesla, for example, has cut cobalt dramatically \u2014 in their 4680 cells, the ratio favors much more nickel and far less cobalt and manganese.
